  • active yeast 1 package Active Dry Yeast
  • baking soda 1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • butter 1 tablespoon Butter
  • cottage cheese 1 cup Cottage Cheese
  • dill seed 2 teaspoons Dill Seed
  • flour 2 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • onion 1/4 cup Onion, Finely Minced or 1 tablespoon Instant Minced Onion
  • sea salt 1 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • sugar 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • water 1/4 cup Water
  • whole egg 1 whole Egg, Beaten

How to make it

  1. Soften yeast in water in a large bowl and set aside.
  2. In a medium sized sauce pan add butter and onion.
  3. Saute until softened.
  4. Add cottage cheese and cook over medium-low heat until mixture is lukewarm. (No warmer then 110 degrees.)
  5. Add cottage cheese mixture to yeast. Stir in sugar, salt, egg, dill seed and baking soda.
  6. Add flour in fourths and stir until well combined after each addition until all flour has been added. Little lumps of cottage cheese will show but otherwise it will be a medium-stiff dough.
  7. Cover dough and let rise for 60 minutes or until doubled.
  8. Grease with butter a 8" cake pan or 9" pie plate.
  9. Fold dough down and shape into a round.
  10. Place round into greased pan, cover and allow to rise 60 minutes or until light.
  11. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake 40-50 minutes.
