  • apple cider vinegar 2 Tbs apple cider vinegar
  • coconut aminos 1 Tbs coconut aminos
  • garlic 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • liquid smoke 1 Tbs liquid smoke
  • raw honey 2 Tbs raw honey
  • roma tomatoes 6 roma tomatoes, diced
  • salt and pepper salt and pepper to taste
  • smoked paprika 2 Tbs smoked paprika
  • tomato paste 1 can tomato paste
  • yellow onion 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • lard 1 Tbs lard

How to make it

  1. Add onions and lard to a large saucepan on medium low heat. Season with salt and pepper and carmelize, about 20-30 minutes. The longer you carmelize, the sweeter the sauce will be and the less added sweetener you'll need.
  2. Add garlic and sauté until just beginning to brown, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add tomatoes, smoked paprika, honey, coconut aminos, and apple cider vinegar and let come to a simmer.Fold in tomato paste and liquid smoke
  4. Turn heat down to low, cover and let simmer for at least 60 minutes but up to 4 hours
  5. Transfer to a blender and blend until smooth
  6. Enjoy
